Adam
CrossFit is the ultimate fitness and functional strength program I have come across in my fitness career. I love the variety of the training that CrossFit offers and the challenges that it throws at you in each workout. After being in the fitness industry for over 15 years, the one thing that stands out about CrossFit for me personally is the passion that all the athletes have for the sport and the willingness they have to help each other achieve their goals and fitness dreams.
From a young age Adam has been involved in a wide variety of sports. Being competitive in each code was always a main goal for him. Tennis, soccer, and cricket were the 3 main sports Adam particularly excelled in while growing up as a child. In each of these 3 codes he went on to represent regional sides. Once into high school a passion for track and road cycling was acquired. With the dedication needed to be successful in this sport, Adam went on to represent his school in 3 national titles. He was also selected for the national team to represent his country.
Being involved in the fitness industry for over 15 years and running a successful personal training business for the last 10 years has given Adam broad and extensive knowledge of what it takes to successfully achieve any fitness goals. Being a coach and helping people reach their goals and seeing the changes in their lives has been a highlight in Adam's career. Since being introduced to CrossFit over the last few years, Adam's main focus has been to implement the key fundamentals of CrossFit into his personal training. The results have been amazing! One of the key concepts is functional movement. This has helped so many clients with mobility issues and injuries. CrossFit covers everything in fitness from strength and conditioning to gymnastics. With extensive knowledge in the fitness industry, CrossFit has shown Adam just how effective it can be. It is for everyone, not just the elite and Adam wishes to offer a professional and fun environment for all.

CrossFit was a game changer for me as a personal trainer. I’d studied fitness training at one university and sports science at another. I’d been a personal trainer for more than 5 years with a full roster of clients of all shapes and sizes, all with different issues to be worked on. I thought I’d seen it all. I was wrong.
My journey into CrossFit began in Sydney in 2011. I’d heard about the intensity of the workouts and that it was catching on as a training technique. So I thought I’d check it out. From the start it was like a light being turned on. I was blown away by the logical simplicity of their disciplines, mixed with the scientific facts backing up their challenges to the fitness community. CrossFit is Constantly Varied – High Intensity – Functional Movements. It was the functional movement patterns that had me hooked. For years I’d been teaching my clients to train like a body builder – with very mixed results. The fact is only a very small percentage of us are going to look like Arnie.
CrossFit is for everyone. Functional movements are things we do every day without thinking. Squats – every time you stand up out of a chair, a car, off the toilet, you’re standing out of a squat. Deadlifts – whether you’re picking up a bag of cement or the washing basket, you bend over to pick it up. CrossFit just teaches you how to do it correctly without hurting yourself. In Sydney, we were given broomsticks not barbells and taught the correct techniques to train without injuring yourself. It’s about staying strong, fit and healthy your whole life. High intensity is relative to the person exercising. The 20-year-old league player and the 65-year-old retired gardener may do the same workout but the weights they use and workout lengths will be very different. If you struggle with any part of the workout it will be scaled to suit your ability. World-level athletes are embracing CrossFit. It’s easy to see why. Increased power, strength, cardiovascular endurance, stamina, flexibility, coordination, agility, and balance mean better sporting performances. But those fitness qualities are just as important to all of us. The stronger and fitter you are at any age, the higher quality of life you will have. Kurt’s involvement in fitness began at just 4 years old, the day his father bribed him with a chocolate bar to get on the rugby league field.
Over the next 26 years, Kurt has played league at a national level on both sides of the Tasman. He captained representative level winning teams from a young age before being scouted to the Manly Sea Eagles in the Australian NRL competition. Shortly afterwards however his budding career was dramatically halted when his collarbone was broken and he suffered severe nerve damage in a tackle, leaving his right arm paralysed for 18 months.
To cope with the physical demands of league, Kurt started training at the gym from just 12 years old. Naturally small and skinny, he was put straight on to the weights to gain size and strength. Learning all about training techniques and exercises, and watching his body change he became hooked. Before his league really took off, Kurt had decided at high school personal training was the career he wanted to follow. After his injury, he went back to university to study personal training. Kurt has a Diploma of Fitness Training with Auckland University of Technology, and studied for a Bachelor of Exercise Science at Queensland’s Bond University. With his academic background plus years of top level play in one of the world’s toughest sports, Kurt can combine practical knowledge with the latest training techniques to bring you the cutting edge in fitness and nutrition.

Fitness and gym training has always been my passion, I loved group fitness classes and have participated in hundreds. I get a kick out of the way exercise makes me feel, it is what keeps my weekly routine on track and my spirits high. After having kids, exercise was the one thing that brought normality back, eradicated any postnatal blues and helped self-esteem. The exercise itself helped massively as did the friends I made along the way.
Two and a half years ago I started my first CrossFit sessions at Raw Strength as a beginner. CrossFit had the group atmosphere which I liked, but I was also able to clearly measure my individual progress. I was constantly working towards goals that were clear, defined and attainable but always progressing.
Coaching was the next step for me as I wanted to share this passion, so others could benefit as I have done. At Raw Strength I have truly been blown away by our community spirit. The support I and everyone receives in our box is amazing and is what helps us believe in ourselves. I love that everyone is able to attend the same classes together due to scaling of the workouts even though we are all at different levels. I have done many CrossFit competitions and find this a great experience as well as a good addition to my training regime and an excellent way to keep focus and training goals in line. The best thing I have ever done for my fitness is to push away any apprehension and begin my CrossFit journey. I would love you to do the same and to be able to share the experience with you.

From mountain biking to Golf and everything in between, I have always loved sports and being active. I have always loved the challenge of improving myself and developing new skills. I was in every school sports team I had time for until taking up the more serious challenge of becoming a gymnast. From the age of 7, I started my gymnastics journey.
At the age of 12, I started training in the Elite squad. Our grueling 4.5 hours a day 6 days a week training regime did not only teach discipline and perseverance, it also taught me how to push my body to its limits.
At the age of 16 I fractured my spine and at the age of 17 my L5 vertebra could no longer handle the pressure and broke. After not being able to do much of anything for a few years I was a little frustrated, overweight pork chop.
This is when I found CrossFit. I have been doing CrossFit since 2012, coaching since 2014. I finally found a sport that requires the same level of discipline and perseverance that drove my gymnastics days. I am stronger and fitter then ever before and I have so much more capacity to enjoy everyday life than ever before.
As a coach, I love seeing people stop focusing on the rules of society and start getting excited about what they can do. I love seeing people set goals for themselves inside the gym that has a tremendous influence on their lives outside the gym. I am excited about the way CrossFit is changing our perspective of self and challenges us to be more than just mediocre.
